Prices in cities of Canada

To make it clear I mean the Canadian provinces but not the territories thereof.

Living in Vancouver or Toronto is more expensive than, for example, in Ottawa or Halifax, while Manitoba and Quebec are the cheapest ones. Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia are the most expensive provinces in Canada.

The average fare for public transportation is $CAD 3. The taxi in Canada is the most expensive, but if you are making a short trip the taxi fare may be compared to public transport fare.

Food prices

Food of good quality and of low cost therewith may be found in large supermarkets. But I wouldn’t strongly recommend doing shopping in convenience stores.

On average the Canadians spend about 15-20% of their budget for food.

What to bring from Canada

You can buy there many unusual and interesting things apart from standard souvenirs like gift cards and fridge magnets.

1. Maple syrup. Pancakes with the syrup are very tasty.

2. Good clothes. For example, you may buy «Canada Goose» winter parka although it is expensive. I would recommend you to look for clothes made from cashmere to be sold sometimes with substantial discounts.

3. Peanut oil. There is quite a lot of varieties of it in Canada.

4. Caps and clothes with Olympic and Canadian symbols attached thereto.

5. Maple lollipops.

6. Scented candles, especially the ones made by Vancouver Candle Co.
